Discover Primary Science & Maths Award 2019/20

Writer: SATSAT

Comhghairdeachas le Páistí Scoil an Athar Tadhg on our wonderful achievement in the recently announced 2019/20 Discover Primary Science and Maths Award. We have once again been honoured with a plaque for excellence. Owing to Covid Closure it wasn’t possible to hold an open day but sufficient work had been done to impress the adjudicators. As well as the work of the children high praise must go to Mr. Eoin O’Shea for giving his own time and excellent work preparing our online application for submission. Once again the judges were impressed with the level of engagement of all the pupils of Scoil an Athar Tadhg. All students/classes were represented in our application and we commend all staff for supporting the work of each child. No doubt the various experiments and scientific work helps create enquiring minds.

The DPSM Team wrote,

Well done on your achievements in a year like no other. The DPSM team at SFI would like to congratulate each and every one of you on your Discover Primary Science and Maths Award Plaque for 2019/2020. It has been a long process and you have shone through. You continued to explore, investigate and learn in STEM subjects and the amount you have achieved is worth an extra acknowledgement. Congratulations - your school has achieved an SFI Discover Science and Maths Award for the 2019/2020 academic year. We have evaluated your Log of Evidence and we are satisfied that you have met all the criteria for the Plaque of STEM. Your school has provided evidence of children's engagement with STEM in the following areas:

1. Science

2. Technology

3. Engineering

4. Maths

5. STEM Showcase (Not Possible due to Social Distancing)

Here is some feedback on your Log of Evidence: Congratulations on achieving your Plaque of STEM Awards for your school. This was a challenging year so well done to all concerned for seeing the entry through to the end. We could see from the wonderful array of photographs the hands on experiences of the children. Everyone enjoyed the dinner of home produced potatoes and freshly made butter and I would have enjoyed it too. You have a creative approach so well done and best wishes with the Awards in the year 2020/2021.

Again, many congratulations to you, your students and your colleagues on achieving your SFI Discover Science & Maths Award in 2020 during a challenging year for everyone.
