School choir

Choir   The school choir has had several outings already this year.   At Christmas we ventured to Blackpool Shopping Centre for Carol  Singing , to raise funds for Marymount Hospice. Great fun was had on the day as well as raising funds for such a worthy cause. The Choir, Staff, and Parents put in an energetic and enthusiastic performance.   To everyone’s delight we were joined by Santa himself, who was in great form on the day, singing and dancing with many who were there.   Also at Christmas we were delighted to welcome Mr. John O’ Brien to Scoil an Athar Tadhg. John is a distinguished musician in his own right and has worked with many successful choirs. He worked with our school choir over  several  weeks , teaching the children new Carols for Christmas Mass. In a short space of time the School Choir mastered some  complicated  harmonies , resulting in a wonderful celebration on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses in Carraig na bhFear when our school choir amalgamated with the other choirs in the Community.   First Holy Communion was held in April this year. The  First  Communion children from 2nd. Class sang beautifully on the day. The school choir supplemented the singing. Music was provided by Miss Lyons and Noel Collins.   In May we celebrated   another   Sacrament , Confirmation. This was held in May. The  choir  from 5th. and 6th.  classes   really added to the prayerfulness of the ceremony.   Afterwards, Bishop Padraig  O’  Donoghue  wrote  to  our Principal, Mr. O’ Driscoll ,and described the Confirmation Day as a “delightful occasion” , that the “Mass and Confirmation were both prayerful and beautiful “. He went onto to say that he was “impressed at how the Readings , song and music led us into prayer”. Music on the day was provided by Miss Lyons, Noel Collins and Mrs. Betty Kelleher. Mrs. Joan Mullins was again a wonderful addition to the Music Team on Confirmation Day.   The June week -end saw the launch of “Feile Carraig na bhFear”, the official launch of the 2013 Gathering in our parish. A wide variety of events were arranged for the weekend. On the Sunday morning ,  June 2nd., the school choir , once again, led the congregation in song at the 11.30 a.m. Parish Mass. Musical accompaniment  was supplied by Siobhan and Colm, our resident Church musicians.
